I had the idea of a hand tool for forming threads in 2009 while working as a researcher
in the Institute of metal forming and metal forming machines. I then started my own
company to develop the technology not only for rolling new threads but for a much bigger market:
Thread repair and thread optimization.
This was a start into a much bigger business with globally active customers and also the beginning of joining up with new partners to be able to scale the production. Currently the production of our standard tools involves about 20 people in total. Special solutions and service are another growing business sector.

Tailored Silbertool Solutions
A one time use 300 kg tool for repairing threads on pipes leading into the incinerator of a nuclear reactor, that had to be controlled from behind a lead curtain 5m above between 2mm gaps– challenging and very successful.
Special tool for fixing hundreds of threads on foundations of bridges leading over a highway. Every thread had to successfully pass the micro-crack detection test.
Tool for rolling new threads on studs of a water retention dam, to be able to perform tension tests.

Why did you choose engineering as your major?
Because I always enjoyed producing and developing something new.
Did you show any specific interest in “engineering” toys as a child?
I was and still am a big fan of Lego. To this day I teach my engineers to ‘think Lego’ meaning to think and design in modules that are compatible and harmonize with other parts and standards.
What inspired you for your first designed tool?
Cutting threads in one in one of the most respected institutions for metal forming and metal forming machines is a no go, as a metal former says: ‘anyone can cut’. There was no mobile solution for forming new threads, so I developed it.
Do you have any funny stories of people using your tool inadequate?
Once we received a reclamation, where the customer used a one-meter metal bar ‘to increase’ the torque for closing the tool. The tool was of course completely bent.
